This talk explores the intricacies of the Venus cycle - its timing, qualities, stories, patterns, rituals and observations - and how it can be used as a practical framework for understanding our lives.
Venus speaks to some of our most fundamental human concerns: relationships, money and abundance, fertility, creativity, nourishment, rejuvenation and desire. By understanding what Venus is doing in the sky, we gain another way of observing the changing conditions of these areas in our own lives - when they flourish, when they are challenged, and when they ask us to reassess what we value and desire.
We will explore the cycle through one of civilization's oldest love stories: Inanna’s Descent into the Underworld. This ancient Sumerian myth tells of a powerful queen who descends into the underworld, is stripped of everything she possesses, encounters death, and ultimately returns to reclaim her power. More importantly, we will discover how her story maps remarkably through the movements of Venus, Earth, Moon and the Sun - an extraordinary demonstration of how ancient people connected celestial movements, myth and earthly experience to map the passage of time - and how we might use this same cycle to recognise patterns within our own lives.
